Goals:

Really, our only goal for 2009 was to do our overseas trip, but we've accomplished so much more. I certainly didn't expect us to buy a house this year as I thought we wouldn't have enough for a deposit.

My goals for 2010 are:
  • To become a great PA
  • To settle into our new house
  • Maybe climb Mt Taranaki? ...we'll have to see about that one as I'd like to go with Mike and he might not be able to go this year.
  • Make extra repayments on our mortgage to pay off an additional $20,000

It's been a great year, but I'm not sad to see it come to a close. We've done a lot and I'm a little overwhelmed by it all.

On 6 July 2009 we flew off on our eight week fun filled European adventure. We’d saved for two years and spent a lot of time planning and preparing for the trip of a lifetime. Mike and I enjoyed it immensely. Where we went: - Singapore - UK - London, Bath, Marloes Sands, Hartington, Ambleside, Chillingham, Edinburgh, Loch Ness, Loch Lomond, Glasgow - Belgium - Brugge - Netherlands - Rotterdam, Dan Haag, Amsterdam, Arnhem - Germany - Essen, Berlin, Munich - Czech Republic - Prague - Switzerland - Zurich - France - Avignon, Bordeaux, Paris How much it cost: Total cost $33,668.54 - Flights, insurance, hire car and Eu-Rail pass = $10,930.95 - Tours etc = $968.40 - Singapore and London accommodation = $1,403.50 - Other accommodation = approx. $7,800 - Meals, shopping, bus/metro and activities = approx. $12,565 What we ate: In my travel diary I kept a list of what we ate for dinner each night. Salt

Where would we be without salt? "Edible salt is a mineral, one of the few rocks humans eat. Salt is necessary for the survival of all living creatures, including humans. Notes from Europe, August 2012

In August 2012 Mike and I once again travelled half way around the world to spend four weeks in Europe.  Before we left we planned out the cities we were to visit: Tokyo, Dresden, Vienna, Budapest, Salzburg, Venice, Florence and Rome. These notes are mostly about food, but I do also include other anecdotes and random things I remembered.   Some of it was written during the trip but much added at later stages. Saturday 4th Wellington to Auckland Flights to Tokyo always leave early in the morning so we had to fly to Auckland and stay the night there.  We stayed at the hotel across the road from the international terminal.  From memory it was $168 for the night, but worth it for a comfy bed and no hassle about getting to the airport in the morning. Sunday 5th Auckland to Tokyo This was an Air New Zealand flight.  It was an old plane and our seats were on an exit aisle, which has its upsides and downsides.  It means there was no one in front of us
